Our LinkedIn statistics laid bare

Feel like LinkedIn is getting harder? You’re not imagining it…
This time 12 months ago, I’d gone from 3,000 to 18,000 LinkedIn followers in a year. In the last 12m, however, despite getting better (hopefully?) and more consistent (definitely), my follower rate has slowed massively (I just passed 24,000).
Let’s dig in. 👇

- It doesn’t just feel harder to get reach and engagement. It IS harder.
- Perhaps AI has made it easier for others to post (good) content?
- Perhaps the algorithm has changed?
- But some people ARE consistently generating likes and shares.
- Repeating obvious, short, pithy platitudes seems to get reach.
- While genuine stories and learnings generate more enquiries.
- A blend of the two appears to be more important than ever.

I regularly tell our portfolio companies to ignore all the influencers who say how easy it is to build an audience (especially those with a vested interest).
It’s still possible (see Jade Bonacolta), but it’s definitely much harder to stand out than it was, meaning it’s easier than ever to waste a tonne of time.
Having said that, the right post or comment from someone with reach can immediately deliver leads to your business.
My advice: find a way to leverage those who already have reach.
Hope it helps!
