I was talking to an experienced CTO last week, who told me that people often come to him with a very clear brief of what they want to build.
Sometimes they even have beautiful mockups and screen shots.
But the problem is…
…They’ve done barely ANY research.
The designs have come straight from the founder’s imagination, with no external validation or proof that they’re what users need.
But what’s worse is this…
Many dev agencies will simply turn those exact designs into an application.
No questions asked.
Because the customer is always right.
…
Only… they aren’t.
In fact, my CTO friend told me, they NEVER are.
He reckons, in all seriousness, that there may not be A SINGLE software application live today that works exactly as its original designer intended.
There is ALWAYS something to change.
Often it’s the ENTIRE thing.
But it’s not in the agency’s interest to point that out.
So they forge ahead.
